After a long hiatus i am back, i haven't been able to do much work on my portfolio since my last update due to personal reasons, however, i am slowly getting back into the groove. I have realized that making the whole of the office block from the start, even with documentation and research, was very optimistic. Since a small bit of code has been implemented to allow the player to move and jump etc, it hasn't given me a good view of what i want the player to be able to achieve.
Focusing on the tutorial i will be able to hone my ideas and mechanics towards individual implementations, this will allow me to (hopefully) perfect each mechanic and have a corresponding tutorial stage for it to showcase how it is used, with the player then being able to adapt themselves in the level. This also means that once the tutorial and the mechanics are implemented and working, i can shape the levels / floors to add difficulty as the player progresses with the skills that have been learnt.
Initially i think i focused too much on the look and layout of the level without fully factoring in the gameplay perspective, since this is my first official attempt at level design i am learning as i go. From this point forward i am going to focus more on the tutorial level, then think about how i want the difficulty to progress, build on my initial layout of the offices and then go from there.
Until my next update, see you soon :))
